Center Activities

NVAHEC at Mason was initiated September 2017 by the Virginia Workforce Development Authority with federal funds from the Health Resources and Services Administration. The Center is located in the College of Health and Human Services at George Mason University.

The main focus areas of the center are:

Health Career Preparation and Promotion

Recruit under-represented and disadvantaged individuals, and to prepare them for health professions education by providing health career awareness activities.

Community Based Experiential Training

Support community-based experiential training in medically underserved areas or that work with vulnerable populations through field placements and clinical rotations for health professions students.

Professional Education Support

Establish and maintain programs that recruit and retain health professionals for under served populations. Example: Continuing Education, Training/Workshops, Preceptor Support.

AHEC scholars

AHEC Scholars program is a part of a national initiative to prepare tomorrow’s health professionals to become leaders in interprofessional, transformative practice who serve those who need it the most.
